AIIM announced today, the availability of its newest Certificate program focused on best practices for adopting and implementing Microsoft SharePoint 2010. Partnering with Houston-based Gimmal Group, Inc., a leading Enterprise Content Management and Records Management professional services firm, AIIM has developed the SharePoint Certificate program in response to a growing need by organizations to learn how to apply the necessary strategies and structures to sharing and managing corporate information on the SharePoint 2010 platform. According to Bob Larrivee, Director and Industry Advisor at AIIM, “A recent AIIM study, ’SharePoint: strategies and experiences’ (http://www.aiim.org/Research/Industry-Watch/SharePoint-2010), reveals that governance is sorely lacking in the majority of installations. For the 500+ individuals we surveyed, there appears to be very little thought given to e-discovery, retention policies, and most of all, classification schemes and metadata standards. While Microsoft and their partners provide organizations with technical training on the product, they don’t provide guidance on the information management implications of the documents shared and stored within its libraries and team sites. The AIIM SharePoint Certificate program is based on identified best practices from our more than 65,000-member community. Developed independent of Microsoft, it identifies the elements of successful implementation, and teaches organizations how to assess when they need complementary solutions to enhance their information management environments.” David Quackenbush, President of Gimmal Group concurs stating, “This new SharePoint Certificate Program provides the knowledge that IT and information management professionals need in order to understand the components necessary for managing content, records, and business processes on the SharePoint platform, including an administrative and content governance framework. We are excited to support AIIM’s training efforts.” Suitable for information management professionals, IT professionals, business analysts, line-of-business managers, and consultants, the program is delivered online or in public and private classrooms. While focusing on SharePoint 2010, the program also covers SharePoint 2007 and the technologies that complement SharePoint to enhance and extend its capabilities.
