/PRAvenueNW/ -- Rural Waupaca, Wisconsin resident and local radio broadcaster Dave Allen is going green.
Sixteen backyard solar panels supply an average of 2300 watts on a sunny day to power most daytime electrical needs plus quite a bit extra.
"It's fun to watch our meter turn backwards as we feed excess power back down the lines," says Allen. "Also, Wisconsin's Focus On Energy program is supplying a $5,200 grant for the installation and we get a $2,000 tax write off from the IRS."
Beginning January 1, 2009, Allen's electric service provider, Alliant Energy, is implementing a program whereby they will buy back electrical energy produced by residential solar power systems at the rate of $.25 per kilowatt hour. "That's more than double what we pay!"
Since May, 2001, Dave Allen, aka The Radio Daddio, has been airing a show daily on Waupaca, Wisconsin radio station 92.7FM WDUX. He is also a popular commercial voice over announcer whose career dates back to 1966 when he was the intern of legendary Chicago broadcaster Howard Miller. Allen also was a public radio news anchor for more than 20 years and hosted 3 television talk shows. His commercial work is heard on radio and TV everywhere. "I've been at it for more than 40 years and I'll keep on doing it until I get it right!"
In addition to his daily show, Allen is the station's Chief Operator and Webmaster. He also set up the radio station's computer based automation system.
